Animals Adopted
Brie is sitting with her best friend, Kirra
This is Brie Janke spending time with her best friend Kirra, a 1 year old female collie mix, in Elburn, Illinois. Back in December 2008, Brie and her family were on holiday visiting her native born grandfather. This is when Brie saw Kirra living amidst bushes outside of her hotel and decided to rescue her. Even though they were unsure how to proceed, the hotel desk clerk who refered them to the ARF office. The ARF administrator guided them through the 3 step for a smooth rescue: visit the vet for shots and a health certificate, purchase a kennel, and book a flight. While here, they decided to spay Kirra since ARF offered a low-cost spaying voucher. Finally, after two weeks of preparation, Kirra was ready to fly. However, the states was hit with the worst winter seen in years. Due to strict animal safety protocols, no airline would fly out animals in their cargo once the temperature dips below 35 degrees. Kirra was stuck in Puerto Rico (fostered by the grandfather) and Brie had to wait a little longer. Finally, with the thawing of spring, Kirra was finally shipped to Illinois on May 5, 2009. Today, the Janke family find it a blessing to have such a sweet dog like Kirra living with them.

This is Daisy Mendez holding the newly adopted Chica, a 1 year old female mix. Chica had been abandoned in Rincon when she was about 11 months old. An ARF board member, who already has three dogs of his own, rescued an undernourished Chica and fostered her. Chica was lucky to be in a home environment, which is very different from a shelter. The foster dad worked with Chica individually and watched as she learned to respect and socialize with the other dogs (all females), to follow the rules of the house and enjoyed lots of care and attention.

When Daisy finally adopted Chica, she was surprised how easily Chica adjusted to the home life. Chica happily walks on a leash, is housetrained, plays outdoors during the day and sleeps indoors at night, and is showered with love by the Mendez family. Thank you Daisy for giving Chica a home to finally call her own!

Daisy finally takes Chica home!
A Little Princess for Mrs. Candelaria
One rainy day, a gentleman ran into the ARF office with an urgent mission. He told us that an elderly neighbor's long time dog had died of old age. After a few weeks of mourning, she decided to adopt a dog and sent the gentleman to the ARF office for any dog available! She was given photos of ARF dogs available and she chose Faith, a black 4 month old female terrier mix. Faith had a rough beginning. She and her 2 sisters were malnourished and developed a skin condition. An ARF volunteer patiently cared and cured the three sisters until they began to flourish. Faith was delivered to the elderly Mrs. Lydia Candelaria that rainy afternoon. She promised ARF that she would take good care of her.

Just recently Mrs. Candelaria and her daughter, Lilly Gonzalez, visited the office with Faith, now 8 months old and renamed Negri. Mrs. Candelaria assured me that she has taken good care of Negri, who is shamefully spoilded. As Mrs. Candelaria and her daughter left the office with Negri in tow, they promised to return in another few months.

Thank you Lord for good people

Abbey's in ARF of East Hampton!
This is Abbey, a 3 1/2 month old female lab-mix formerly from Puerto Rico, who was rescued when she was the size of a baseball! In this picture she arrived in New Jersey where a volunteer greeted her and took her to our partner ARF of East Hampton, a no-kill adoption facility. Volunteers there will find her a good home.

ARF of Rincon uses various sources to get an animal adopted. It is fortunate to have this partnership and wishes to thank all of the volunteers who worked diligently to help Abbey and the other puppies prepare for this trip:  vaccinations are requested, travel papers, booking passage on the plane, transporting the animals to the airport during the early dawn, and eventually checking-in the frightened animals in their kennels! Without all these helping hands, Abbey might still be desolutely roaming the streets of Rincon. Thank you all and keep up the good work!

ARF is very grateful to the Richards family!
Mrs. Richards contacted ARF with a simple request: She wanted to adopt a dog. No specification about breed, sex or age. That same afternoon, Mrs. Richards and her mom were introduced to Ariel, a gentle large 6 month old female sato who was rescued from the public beach of Rincon. Mrs. Richards immediately fell in love with her and took her home that afternoon. These are only two of the many pictures Mrs. Richards took on the ride home and once her husband arrived from work! Since Mrs. Richards is an avid scrapbooker, ARF knows that she'll save this picture and many more.  ARF must also thank the kind-hearted foster parents who took care of Ariel until this happy union was made possible. Kudos to all!
Cuco (Blackie)
"On June 30th, the Austin family traveled from Mayaquez in search of a playmate for their dog.
They didn't ask for any specific breed or gender.
They only asked which dog needed a home.
They picked Cuco (aka Blackie).
He is a 6 month old mix, who is fully vaccinated and neutered.
He loves people, kids and other dogs....and he doesn't get sick in the car!

Congratulations Austin Family!"
